The Media Center provided coverage via-satellite February 23, 2012 for the state of WV's report on the Upper Big Branch Mine Explosion that claimed 29 lives on April 5, 2010. Unfortunately this horrific accident could've been prevented, however justice will be served. On February 22, 2012, the former superintendent and the Upper Big Branch mine boss, Gary May, 43, was charged with fraud in the deadly mine blast. Attorney Booth Goodwin said his investigation of the worst U.S. mine disaster in four decades is "absolutely not" finished.
Last Thursday, West Virginia Health Right in Charleston received a $185,000 grant to support its Pathways to Cardiovascular Health program. The grant was through the AstraZeneca HealthCare Foundation program, Connections for Cardiovascular Health.
Pathways to Cardiovascular Health is designed to improve the health of 500 impoverished uninsured patients in West Virginia through clinical intervention. The majority of the West Virginia Health Right’s impoverished, uninsured patients have one or more cardiovascular high risk factors.
House and Senate health committees in West Virginia hosted a public hearing February 16 to combat drug abuse. The hearing was at 4 p.m. in the House of Delegates Chamber.

Charleston, Feb. 13, 2012 – West Virginia tourism and travel industry representatives and vendors gathered at the Capitol Monday, Feb. 13 for Tourism Day at the Legislature, an event designed to bring awareness to the significant economic and social impact tourism brings to the state. The efforts of state officials to crack down on voter fraud in Southern West Virginia are getting national attention.
Secretary of State Natalie Tennant was a guest on Fox News this weekend to talk about the voter fraud pleas Lincoln County Sheriff Jerry Bowman and Lincoln County Clerk Donald Whitten are scheduled to enter next month.
"We don't tolerate election law violations no matter who tries to do that," Secretary of State Tennant said Sunday morning during a segment involving the Fox News Voter Fraud Unit.
